4-Panel Comics–6th Grade

Listen. Listen. I absolutely, definitely, 100% love comics. I adore them. I grew up reading Hiveworks in between classes, I keep my eyes on Shortbox every year, and have even made a handful of short comics myself. When my cooperating teacher let me introduce a comic lesson, I was completely over the moon. Not only that, but several students had a great time with it as well, even going so far as to make more “issues” outside of class!

Below is a video I made to show students how to place their dialogue bubbles so they don’t run out of room for their art.

Alongside the video, I made a comic handout for students to reference, as well as a HUGE masterlist of resources for myself, hobbyists, and other educators about comics and zines (when I say that I’m passionate, I mean that I’m passionate)! My own presentations and info are included in the link. Below are some examples of what my sixth graders came up with!
